Microsoft has confirmed that its newest operating system for personal computers, Windows 7, will be released on 22 October this year. Windows XP was released worldwide on 25 October 2001 and Windows Vista on 30 January 2007. Microsoft is therefore planning to release Windows 7 less than three years after Windows Vista, which is really good news. Microsoft has received a lot of criticism in the past for having too long development cycles between operating system releases.
